I don’t think you need a lawyer but when ever you get a lottery ticket put your name on it so the convenience store guy or anyone doensnt rip you off

i would think you would want one…just to make sure taxes are paid etc…and to protect you from all the people who come out of the woodwork when one wins like that

n o, it is because there are legal/tax complexities involved with such a windfall, and even more then that, once your name is public, you will be the target of every scammer on earth. It is better to have a solid adviser who can handle those kinds of distractions.

You do not need a lawyer, nor is the purpose of hiring one because the lottery commission would try to rip you off. I know that most people usually consult/hire a financial advisor before they claim (in fact, they are encouraged to do so). It is just to make sure your money is properly protected and that no mistakes are made…i.e. taxes, placing it in the right type of accounts, etc.
